Finke Gorge National Park: A Photo Journal
Finke Gorge National Park is a stunning part of the country, and one I hadn’t really heard much about prior to our road trip. The national park is in Western Arrarnta country, and the park itself is managed jointly by the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service and the traditional owners.
We were there in early October 2021, and I was impressed. It is a lovely spot, not too difficult to get to and the campground was really fantastic with lovely hot showers and beautiful large sites.
I’ve written another blog post about the park, impression it left, and the many sketches and paintings I’ve done of the park and the creatures we saw there.
Here I’m sharing some of our photos from the park - from the Mpulungkinya walk within Palm Valley itself, and from Mpaara and Kalaranga walks accessible from the campground.
For more official information on the park and a downloadable map of the walks, see the National Park website.
If you’d like to see some photos of the park and wildlife, here they are!

The sunsets views in this park were spectacular!
Some of the Flora and Fauna we saw
The following photos are all @ScottGlobeTrots’ photos, whose patience allows him to take some great photos of the wildlife we see.
The cute little frogs were so much fun to watch!
My first time seeing a glossy ibis! A really beautiful bird.
There was a lot more wildlife, including cockatiels, a dingo, crows of course and just tons of birds. Not as much as in some other places, but sitting in the campground, it was still very hard to be bored.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these photos - these are a combination of photos taken by me and by Scott Sheridan.
